CADA, MI, W&M to be merged in other depts

The state Governor-in-Council in its meeting today has approved the allocation of Rs 520 crores as sectoral allocation of the state Annual Plan for the year 2001-2002.The Governor-in-Council, in its meeting at the Raj Bhavan today, while discussing the sectoral allocation resolved to pay special attention to centrally sponsored schemes, to ensure uninterrupted flow of funds from the Centre.
The meeting also laid emphasis on long term- projects and special funds for the development of adequate infrastructure in the districts.
In another major decision, the Governor-in-Council has decided to continue with the drive for downsizing of government by merger of various departments.
According to official sources, the council has decided that the Command Area Development Authority, CADA, should be merged into the agriculture department, weights and measures to commerce and industries, minor irrigation to IFCD and Ashram School to the education department.
It was also agreed to make the necessary amendments to the schedule of the rules of business for the merger of these departments to other departments.
The Governor-in-Council has-also approved a proposal for expenditure sanction of Rs 57.23 lakhs for the purchase of medicines and non-medicine items for supply to the medical hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres.
It may be mentioned that nurses at the JN hospital, Porompat and other government hospitals are at present on strike protesting against the lack of adequate bio-safety measures and emergency medicines at various health care centres.
The council further agreed upon the release of Rs 44.04 lakhs as grant-in aid for payment of salaries to the teaching and non-teachings staff of Manipur University from Plan funds for the months of May, June, July and August this year, and another amount of Rs 54.30 lakhs from the non-Plan head.
